After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Today we are encouraged to "follow stars" or well-known celebrities via social media. We are meant to hang on their every word of wisdom that they post on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Yet often what is posted today is superseded by what is posted tomorrow.

At Christmas we are reminded to follow another star, a star whose words have stood the test of time. A star whose guidance for our lives lasts forever, a star who the wise men discovered was Jesus Christ.

Wishing you a merry Christmas,

Revd Michael Broadley
