more than a gap year

NEW WINE
DISCISPLESHIP
YEAR

WHAT IS NWDY?

In a nutshell, the Discipleship Year is about growing as disciples of Jesus, learning how to serve him and his Kingdom with the whole of your life, for the whole of your life. It will take you on a life-changing journey of discovery and adventure, where you’ll be inspired, get practical Kingdom experience, make life-long friendships, and have a lot of fun in the process!

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Discipleship Year is for ANYONE aged 18-24 looking to:

  • Grow confidence in who God has made you to be

  • Discover the purpose he has for your life

  • Get involved by serving in a local church

  • Discover, exercise and nurture your spiritual gifts and passions

  • Be challenged to step out, risk and see God work through you

  • Experience the adventure of overseas mission

HOW IT WORKS

The New Wine Discipleship Year runs from September to June. Based here at Emmanuel through the week and on Sundays, there are opportunities to get involved in a variety of areas of church ministry including children and youth work, worship, student work, administration & operations, and comms. Each week you will receive eight hours of teaching at the regional DY hub (Holy Trinity Leicester is the Leicester DY Hub).

TEACHING

Teaching takes place each week during term time. It includes community time in the Leicester hub, prayer, personal reflection and worship, alongside a curriculum taught by both internal and external speakers. A range of topics will be covered throughout the year, spanning theology, skills and life lessons.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Each year there are two Discipleship Year Weekends Away. This is where all the Discipleship Year students from across the country come together to learn, worship, build relationships and have fun! You will also get a ticket for the New Wine Leadership Conference. This is all included in the course cost. Additionally, you get the opportunity to serve on a team at New Wine’s summer gathering, United.

COST

The course costs are paid for you in the Leicester Diocese.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation for the year will be arranged for you, either here in Loughborough or at the Community of the Tree of Life in Leicester - we're open to hearing your thoughts on this!
